Get ready to pay more for the iPhone 15 Pro Max than ever before

Jul 5, 2023

The iPhone 15 Pro Max production schedule appears to be on track. However, the iPhone 15 Pro Max rumor is that it will cost more than ever.

Jeff Pu, of Haitong International Tech Research, has commented on the iPhone 15’s production schedule. He also predicted the volume of assembly and hinted at the possibility of a price increase. Pu believes that mass production will begin in August.

It is on track, if you exclude the years when COVID restrictions severely impacted the iPhone assemblies. IT also indicates that low-volume early construction has begun and is proceeding well — but he didn’t go into details on this matter.

Pu also stakes his claim on assembly numbers. He expects Apple to produce 84,000,000 units across all models. He doesn’t go into detail about the models, but he does mention that the iPhone 15 Pro Max or iPhone 15 Ultra — whichever Apple chooses to call it – is expected to be a popular model in the beginning.

This isn’t a radical statement. In the past, “pro” models have been the most popular in the first 5 months of the year, and the balance has shifted after the New Year.

Pu expects a price increase for the highest-end iPhone due to the new features. He does not specify why or by how much. However, rumors claim that the larger iPhone 15 Pro has features that aren’t available on the smaller iPhone 15 Pro.

A periscope lens that allows for a greater optical zoom is the most likely addition to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, beyond an obvious larger battery and screen. A new sensor is another possibility. If accurate, it would improve the iPhone 15’s low-light performance, as well as image quality.

Pu’s record is mixed. He has been wrong about product details, but he’s shared information that is generally considered accurate in regards to Apple’s supply chains. The note on Thursday is more of the latter.

What to expect from the iPhone 15 lineup in the fall

As usual, Apple is anticipated to bring out four models of the iPhone 15, with iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro flanked by Max counterparts.

The bulk of the rumors for the entire iPhone 15 line pertains to display technology, with curved bezels touted across all models, as well as the spread of the Dynamic Island concept from Pro to non-Pro variants.

The iPhone 15 display is thought to reuse the same tech as the iPhone 14. ProMotion and the Always-On display are expected to stay a Pro feature for another generation.

It is also probable that Apple will finally ditch the Lightning connector in favor of embracing USB-C for its physical port, bringing the iPhone in line with the iPad family.

Rumors have also pointed to 48-megapixel cameras arriving on all models, as well as some debate over solid state or unified side buttons.
